He was forced to confess to his participation in an armed clash between the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the border guards. Eight border guards were killed during this clash. He was forced to sign a confession prepared by security officials due to severe torture and despite the fact that he was illiterate. He was denied access to a lawyer and was not even allowed to meet with his family. Eight months later, he had only a brief telephone call to his family. After eleven months and ten days in the Urmia Intelligence detention center, he was transferred to Urmia Central Prison.
