Hooshang Tohidi, a member of Komala Organization (a leftist Kurdish political party), was born in 1336 Iranian Calendar (1957) in the city of Saqqez. He finished primary education in Saqqez and graduated high school in the city of Tabriz, after his family had settled there. As a young man he got to know intellectual circles and got acquainted with the Marxism ideology and the liberation of the labor class.
He became a member of the Knowledge Corps* in the outskirts of Lahijan City in North Iran. Due to his deep knowledge of problems of the labor class, he soon became a respected and trusted person among them. This coincided with the uprising of Iranian people against the monarchy regime.
After the collapse of the monarchy, Hooshang returned to Saqqez and joined the association of labor class supporters (جمعیت طرفداران زحمتکشان). At that time, a conflict was going on in the provinces of Saqqez and Divandera against the reactionary groups. He participated in the struggle that took place in the region Karaf too along with other comrades.
In fall of 1979, he returned to Tabriz under the direction of Dr. Jafar Shafiee from Komala Organization. He organized some of the workers of a shoe factory. He was an active member of his organization under the nickname Ali and worked tirelessly for enlightenment and political awareness along with Tabrizi workers.
Hooshang was arrested by the security forces of the Islamic Regime. He resisted despite torture and harassment. He was shot on the evening of 8/4/1360 Iranian Calendar (29/6/1981), along with four other comrades Amjad Mostafa Soltani, Majed Mostafa Soltani, Ismail Yeganeh Doost and Saeed Rahman Poor in the prison of Tabriz.
His memory is cherished forever.
*Knowledge Corps (SepaheDanesh) was founded by the Shah’s regime as a civilian corps for conscripts to serve as teachers instead of military service in remote provinces.
