 Rahmat Habibpanah was born in 1956 in a working-class Kurdish family in the city of Naqadeh.

 He finished his primary and secondary school in the same city. He graduated from high school in the city of Mahabad.  He supported his family financially by working during summer vacations.

 After graduating from high school, he was admitted to the pedagogical college in Urmia. He completed his studies successfully in mathematics. He was employed as a teacher at Adab high school in Mahabad. He worked there between 1977 and 1978. It was during this period where the uprising against Iranian regime started.

He believed in socialism and had in-depth knowledge of socialism. He took active role in the demonstrations and marches during that time. In 1979, he joined the Peykar Organization (a left-wing organization) as a Peshmerga. He was considered as sincere and truthful lad by his comrades. A hard-working and honest Peshmerga. He was a patriot and fought for the freedom for his nation and he was seeking happiness through socialism.

He joined his comrades in the second phase of the war in Kurdistan which started during summer 1980. He participated in the Kurdish resistance during that time, and he was deployed in battles in Mahabad and Urmia area.

During Summer of 1981 he was assigned to a mission in Teheran along with Khaleq Naghadeh and Mohammad Validi. They lived in a safehouse which was used for underground work. Unfortunately, the safehouse was discovered by the security forces and after a gunfight he was arrested.

He was then subjected to torture and later Rahmat Habibpanah and nine of his comrades were shot dead by firing squad on August 3. 1981 in Evin Prison in Tehran.

Their bodies were  never handed over to their families. They were all supposedly buried in Khavaran cemetery in Tehran.

The Kayhan, Ettela’at, and Jomhuri Eslami newspapers reported the execution of Rahmat Habibpanah on August 5. 1981.

Below is the statement from the public relations office of the Islamic Revolutionary Prosecutor: “The Central Islamic Revolutionary Tribunal sentenced 12 members of the Peykar group to death for armed action against the Islamic Republic. The sentences were carried out in Evin Prison. The public relations of Evin Prison announced the names of those executed as follows:

1. Mr Hamid Reza Khoshnam, son of Reza

2. Mr Dariush Nikoobin, son of Akbar, pseudonym Alireza Naderi

3. Mr Mohammad Sarooni, son of Saeed Khan

 4. Mr Shahram Jana, son of Abolfazl, pseudonym Ahmad

 5. Mr Hassan Kahrizi, son of Nasser, pseudonym Samad

6. Mr Hojjatullah Malek, son of Gholam Abbas, pseudonym Hojjat Mansour

7. Mr Chenghis Arshi, son of Muharram, pseudonym Saeed Alizadeh

8. Mr Kamyar Jahan Bigleri, son of Ali Akbar, pseudonym Ahmad

9. Mr Massoud Abu Saeedi, son of Gholamreza, pseudonyms Hashem and Massoud Najafi

10. Mr Khaleq Naghade, son of Hussein, pseudonyms of Kazem Taheri and Fazel

 11. Mr Rahmat Habibpanah, son of Reza

 12. Mr Mohammad Walidi, son of Mohammad Baqir, pseudonym Tawfiq .
