Reza Karimi was one of the passionate, freedom-loving and engaged adolescent persons of Mahabad who was executed by the criminal regime of the Islamic Republic in 1981 without a trial and without any evidence against him.
Reza Karimi was the son of Ali Karimi and his wife Hosni Barezgan (Badiee). He was born 1341 Iranian Calendar (1962)in the city of Mahabad into a well-known and patriotic family. He went to school in the same city. The 16th year of his life coincided with the revolution of the Iranian people against the Shah’s regime. Reza, like other youngsters and teenagers in the city, enthusiastically joined these movements and participated in the protests of 1978. After the victory of the People’s Revolution, the cities of Kurdistan were governed by the people and the popular forces of the Peshmergas. He joined the ranks of Peshmergas of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan. With a firm belief in the party and its goals, he continued his political struggle using the teachings of the Democratic Party.
After the invasion of the occupying forces of the clerical Islamic Regime in the cities of Kurdistan and the withdrawal of the Peshmerga forces from inside the cities, Reza decided to stay in the city and continue his struggle. When he heard that some mercenaries cooperate with the occupying regime, he got very angry and addressed them: “These unscrupulous traitors, who are avid by receiving money from the regime betraying their own people, should know that in the end they will get nothing but shame and disgrace.”
Reza stood up to these traitors with exemplary courage and personally punished them whenever possible. His courage and patriotism terrified the traitors. He was arrested by conspiracy and trickery and was handed over to the barbaric Islamic Regime.
Since his arrest until his execution, the perpetrators and occupiers of the clerical regime subjected him to the most severe and brutal tortures. Reza’s steadfast belief and resistance under these brutal tortures caused the torturers to become furious and desperate.
Forty days after his arrest, he was transferred to Urmia Prison after enduring the most severe torture during this time. He was executed on 12/8/1360 (03.11.1981) along with Khaled Shateri. The murderous regime of the Islamic Republic of Iran refused to return the bodies of these two innocent victims to their families for fear of the Mahabad people protesting against this crime. They were secretly buried in Bagh Rezvan Cemetery in Urmia at night without the permission of the families.
The other son of this family Fayeq Karimi was also a victim of the crimes of the clerical regime and was executed like his innocent brother. The Karimi family has sworn to bury the bodies of these two heroic brothers on the shoulders of their comrades in a worthy ceremony worthy of these two heroic fighters in their homeland after the victory of the Kurdish nation and the fall of the murderous regime of the Islamic Republic.
Reza Karimi sacrificed his sweet life at the age of nineteen for the freedom and well-being of the Kurdish people and the land of Kurdistan. Peace be upon him.
In the last hours before his execution, Reza Karimi wrote a note addressed to his family on a piece of duvet cover and had hidden it inside his Kurdish pants. He had hoped that his clothes will be returned to his family after his execution. And they found and read the manuscript. You can read the full text of this manuscript in the photos below.
