As we know, the death penalty is directly related to the way in which the people of any society think and act towards this inhuman act. After World War II, there was a deep revolution in the thinking and behavior of societies and nations, with the aim and ideal that the value and respect and appreciation of human lives should be the basis for the formation of a new society and governments. This new and modern thinking became so strong and pervasive that it was able to attract the attention of many societies and governments. It led to the abolition of this punishment in many countries around the world. This inhuman sentence is still enforced in only one-fifth of countries. Fortunately, in contrast, other countries have abolished this form of punishment altogether. These modern societies have not only abolished this form of punishment, but they also have tried to put pressure on countries where the death penalty is still practiced to prevent them from committing this inhuman act. Many governments resort to false and medieval pretexts to eliminate their opponents.
In 2018, we witnessed a global consensus to end the execution of the death penalty in all countries. This global consensus led to a proposal and a bill to abolish the death penalty in all countries of the world one year later at the UN General Assembly. This was fortunately approved by a majority vote. On this occasion, October 10th. was registered as the International Day against the Death Penalty and was added to the world calendar.
Today, October 10th., is the International Day against the Death Penalty. This day recalls that the dignity of human beings does not deserve inhuman punishment like the death penalty, and no one has the right to take the life of another human being for any reason. Power and status are not so valuable as to take the lives of human beings, nor is the death penalty an act of questioning human dignity.
The Nemiran site is founded and operated by a group of family members of the victims of this inhuman act whose loved ones have been the victims of systematic government executions. The Nemiran site considers the death penalty to be barbaric and most inhuman form of punishment. We believe that resorting to this inhuman act is a result of the fact that rulers fear their own people. We strongly condemn the death penalty by any person, group or government for any reason or justification. We declare our support for any institution or group or individual who works to end this inhuman punishment.
We hope to witness the end of the death penalty soon in the whole world and also in Iran. It should be noted that the regime of the Islamic Republic is recognized as the second country in the world in terms of execution and the first country in the Middle East. Most victims of death penalties in Iran are political prisoners and prisoners of conscience.
It is hoped that all human beings, communities and governments will understand that:
Criminals kill, not the righteous.
