Zhino Beygzadeh Babamiri, the daughter of Kurdish political prisoner Rezgar Beygzadeh Babamiri, announced in her X page that her father’s death sentence has been confirmed. He is being held in Urmia prison. Zhino had previously reported that her father has been allegedly accused of “fighting against God and collaborating with the enemy” by the Revolutionary Court.

Rezgar was arrested on April 17th 2023 by Intelligence Services of the Revolutionary Guards, along with several others, being accused of participating in the mass uprising “Woman, Life, Freedom” in Bukan. He was transferred to Urmia prison of this office. He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the First Branch Criminal Court of Urmia in January 2025 previous to the death sentence later.

He was denied access to his family for several months and was not allowed to choose a lawyer. He was tortured in solitary confinement for forced confessions. He was later transferred to Urmia Central Prison. Mr. Babamiri was sentenced in a joint case with Pezhman Soltani, Kawa Salehi, Soran Ali Qasemi and Jawanmard Mam Khosravi on charges of fighting against God, conspiracy, collaborating with the enemy and smuggling Starlink satellite internet equipment in Iran.

News Agency of the Revolutionary Guards released a film of the forced confessions of Rezgar Beygzadeh Babamiri and three others who had a common case on July 14th 2024. During the first 130 days of his arrest, he was subjected to merciless torture. He was subjected to different tortures methods: death threats, artificial execution, electric shock and forced insomnia.

He published a letter in Urmia prison on April 9th 2025 describing how he was deceived by an Intelligence officer of Bukan City named Saeedi to take him to a place around Bukan, where he was kidnapped to the Intelligence Services of this city. He mentioned six names of the interrogators, Saeedi, Qorbani and Hojati, among others. Hojati is the manager of this infamous office.

Nemiran Center strongly condemns the death sentence of Rezgar Beygzadeh Babamiri,   demands the abolition of his death sentence and calls for solidarity with his family.
