Following the Women, Life, Freedom movement in Iran, another political prisoner, Reza Rasayi, a Kurdish man from Sahna, Kermanshah Province, was executed on August 6th, 2024. He had been arrested after protests and riots and was accused of killing a high-ranking member of Iranian Revolutionary guard corps, IRGC. However, evidence discovered after his trial suggested that he was not even present at the scene of the crime. Despite his claims of innocence, Reza reportedly confessed to the crime under torture, and was later executed as an apparent act of revenge against his community. His case is just one example of the persecution faced by minority religious groups in Iran.
Reza’s family was not allowed to see him before his execution and was told that they could not bury him in their hometown due to security reasons. The unlawful killing of Reza and nine other members of the Yarsani religious group, including Mohsin Shkari, Majid Reza Rahnemoud, Mohammad Hussaini, Mohhamd Mehdi Karami, Majid Kazemi, Saeed Yaaqubi, Saleh Mir Hashemi, Milad Zahravand, and Muhammad Qoubadlou, for their supposed involvement in the protests, has been strongly condemned by the Nemiran Center, which stands in solidarity with their families.
