Kamran Shekhe, a Kurdish prisoner, was executed at Uromieh prison in Iran on the early morning of Thursday, July 23rd, 2024. He had been arrested fifteen years ago on charges of murdering a local Imam in Mahabad and alleged ties to a Salafi group. Shexe, along with six others, was convicted and sentenced to death. Reports indicate that these men were subjected to torture while in custody.

Throughout its history, the Islamic regime in Iran has consistently employed torture and executions as methods of punishment to silence dissenting voices. The regime, which has faced international isolation, is now encountering challenges domestically . It employs various tactics to suppress opposition and dissent, which has led to a rise in dissatisfaction among the Iranian populace. Recent protests in various cities have been met with violent crackdowns by authorities.

In an effort to quell further unrest, several young men have already been executed in Kurdistan, with many more facing death sentences. It appears that the authorities are resorting to increased executions in Kurdish regions in response to growing internal discontent and international isolation.
