Nemat Newdinian was born in July 1963 in Marivan into a labour family. He had six brothers and one sister. At a very young age alongside seven other young activists he was executed in Sanandaj prison. Their families were not notified and they were buried at Ferdosi cemetery in Kermanshah. The day after the execution, their families who had been meeting at the prison to visit them were informed about their execution. The families were forced to pay for the bullet as well. It was a barbaric method to force the Kurdish people in the knees and intended to break their resistance psychologically.
Nemat lived in Marivan until 1978 and was studying there. At the beginning of the protests in 1978 against the monarchy regime in Iran, he and his family moved to Sanandaj City. He continued his education there.
Nemat was well educated and under the influence of his family he was keen about the Komala Organization (a leftist Kurdish organization). His three older brothers namely Nesan, Abe and Asad were communist activists and teachers in Marivan.
During the communal governing of the cities in Kurdistan he cooperated with popular institutions and centers for the defense of freedom and revolution of people in 1979. He was an enthusiastic activist in the schools in Sanandaj.
Nemat joined Komala and became an active member after the first wave of resistance in Kurdistan during which the government forces of Islamic Republic were repelled from the area. When the government forces took control of Kurdistan, security forces started mass arrests of political activists. This motivated Nemat to work harder and more disciplined. He and some other students were organized in a students’ committee. This was particularly difficult time for him. Three of his brothers were members of Komala. Aye Newdinian was killed in the surrounding mountains of Marivan in skirmishes with security forces in April 1980. His other brothers Haybet and Shoki had been arrested. His only sister Azizeh was jailed with his mother in prison as well. His father Ahmed suffered from many diseases and had lost his sight because of too much pressure from authorities. Despite all these tragic social conditions, Nemat continued his activities firmly and steadfastly until the famous arrest of Kilane in Sanandaj city.
He was arrested by the security forces of Iranian Islamic Regime after revelation of his underground activities. He was executed in the early hours of 24.03.1362 Iranian Calendar (14. June 1983) alongside with 27 other activists in Sanandaj prison.
They were hastily buried in Ferdosi cemetery of Kermanshah city without a human burial. Some of the bodies were partially visible on the ground. When the families attended the prison to visit their sons, they received information about their execution.
The news about the execution of 27 members of Komala was spread rapidly in the city. It triggered a huge anger amongst the Sanandaj population. People were visiting the families of the victims to express their solidarity.
Nemat was executed at a very young age. During his short life time he had gathered loads of experience in his struggle against the previous dictatorship of Shah’s regime and the following Islamic regime. He was very much liked by his companions and friends as well as his family.
His brothers Assad and Nesan visited him in the Negel Village one month before his arrest. They narrated about a passionate young man who was an exemplary activist with strong belief even if he had lost one of his brothers in that struggle.
May his loving memory last forever and bless his soul.
