Death is a better option than the torture I am been exposed to.
Osman Fattahi was born in 1330 Iranian Calendar (1951) in a working-class family in the village of Qarali close to Bukan. He grew up in the village and later he moved to Mahabad to work as an electrician. After the revolution of 1979 he became a member of Komeley Regay Rezgari Zahmatkeshan (a Kurdish leftist group organization). He became an active member in the movement. He was especially concerned about the living conditions of the impoverished people. He was a close college of the deceased Seyyed Muhammad Salimi. In a short time, he became a trusted member of the organization.
He was arrested in the fall of 1982 in Mahabad, after the armed forces of Iran – military and Revolutionary Guards – captured the city. He endured torture for four months before he was released. He never admitted being a part of any movement and in the lack of evidence he was released.
After his release, he continued working for the organization in the hope of a better future for the Kurdish people. Later in the summer of 1983 he was arrested again. This time he was tortured beyond recognition. Later he met his mother in Urmiyer Prison. He told his mother about the barbaric torture he had endured, and he showed his mother the bruises after months of torture. His chest was burned with an iron, a much applied method of torture.
“Death is a better option than the torture I am been exposed to”, her told his mother in that visit.
He admitted the alleged allegations in the hope that the torture would end, and he would be executed. Later in the same summer, he was executed alongside with 46 young people in prison of Tabriz. Omar Aminpoor, Najat (Abdolrahim) Mamle were among that mass execution.
May his memory last forever.
