In the late 1960s, the family moved to Urumieh, where Hasan worked as a clerk in the judicial department. Following the revolution, they returned to their hometown of Mahabad. As civil war erupted and tensions escalated in Mahabad, the family decided to relocate back to Urumieh. During the civil conflict, all schools in the area were closed. In 1981, a temporary lull in the fighting led to the announcement of summer school openings. Eager to continue his education as a teenager, Khosrew chose to stay with his grandparents in Mahabad to attend school. However, the ceasefire was brief, and sporadic clashes between Kurdish fighters and Iranian forces continued in the city. It is said that in one of those incidents he had gone out to check what was happening on the street despite his grandparents protests before being arrested.
Khosrew was arrested on suspicion of being affiliated with Kurdish groups and taken to prison. Any connection to such groups have been refuted by his family ever since.

It is uncertain about the exact duration of Khosrew’s imprisonment in Urmia, but on the 16. December 1981, Khosrew’s father, Hassan, along with Khosrew’s uncle Ghafour Chaychi (his maternal uncle), planned to visit the prison to check on him. They were instructed to go and retrieve the body of their son from the juvenile detention center of the Urmia court.

On that day, the bodies of 13 Kurdish prisoners from Mahabad were released from the Urmia judiciary detention center, and reports indicate that their release was handled in a degrading manner. Khosrew had suffered severe torture, with his right hand and leg broken and injuries all over his body and head.

This incident was reported in the Komala newspaper. “The 13 individuals were brought back to Mahabad where they were laid to rest.
The name of the victims are as follows

Khosrow Salahzadeh

Khosrew Salahzadeh
“
The news was published in Komele Khabar Nameh on December. 27 1981.
The text had been prepared by Farogh Farhad

Ibrahim Sabonchi

Mohammad Karimi

Reza Newakhah

Hossein Mahmoudi

Karim Islami

Abobakr Rahimi

Abdoulrahman Panahandeh

Jones Mohajeri

Mustafa Alizadeh

Khalil Bolluri

Mamosta Sewcheyi

Ali Qaderzadeh Mokri

13.
